The Alchemist

Last weekend I attended a used book sale with a lovely friend of mine. She brought me her copy of The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, which I somehow have not ever picked up. Actually, I have not ever read anything by Coelho.

The Alchemist is about a shepherd named Santiago. He chose to become a shepherd so that he could travel. He is alert and tuned into what is happening around him. One night he meets a king who tells him that his Personal Legend is to find a treasure that is buried near the Egyptian Pyramids. Santiago decides to follow the omens and seek out this treasure. He has an exceptional ability to connect with people, animals, and the earth, and he is willing to take significant risks to seek out his Personal Legend.

This book was great – I loved how Coelho was able to take this big concept about finding meaning from life and trusting your heart and the universe to guide you through, while telling an engaging story.

If you haven’t already, be sure to add this one to your TBR.

I had the perfect reading setup in my backyard – a hot day, my favorite beer, and my feet in a kiddie pool to cool down.
